9:43 Liverpool was in the middle of a Dynasty, eventually winning the 1978-79 First Division title, their 3rd in 4 seasons. Later made it 4 in 5 in 79-80 season (the film was released in Oct, 1979).

None of the examiners were like that when i did the K in the early noughties. A lot of the tricky ones were ex coppers but that had more or less finished when i started.

I never had to re-submit my criminal records when I work in the taxi call centre. However: In my casual work in arenas and stadia, I do. I had to give up that job because: A: I work mostly weekends in the call centre, B: I have to resubmit my criminal record every 6 months. To keep my own record clean, I don't drive much. I even have a Kiwi Access Card, which is a separate ID Card for anyone over 18 but has yet to get a Learner's or a New Zealand passport.

Nigel Hawthorne, Michael Elphick, Gary Holton, David Ryall, Frank Jarvis, Royce Mills all passed on now.
I did work with Kim Taylforth when she was at Holloway in her follow up career!
She’s still doing pantomime I believe.
    Great film.

I totally understand how you feel about your badge number.
I drive London Buses and have my original badge which I wear everyday in service and feel proud to wear it.
I don't think they issue them out anymore post Privatisation.
Obviously your fellow cabbies will be giving you hell as being the new boy again.
Thank you for a lovely insight and I have total respect for the London Cabbie as I know the work that they went through.
They don't rely on a sat nav like some do today.

Superb content. I was a Hackney carriage driver in Birmingham, I managed to do the knowledge in 2 months , obviously no where near in depth as London. Packed up about 15yrs ago after a bypass operation. What a mistake they were probably the best days of my life, if only I had realised at the time. So easy when your a cabbie to get negative as most of the other drivers seem to try and tell you what a terrible job it is.

NZ$15 is the standard cost to replace a debit card. It's $60 to replace a Kiwi Access Card.
This is also why trackpants with zips becomes my own "uniform", just so I won't lose my locker keys and tags at work.
16:01 Fair enough. I'd never get the same numbers for my bank cards or even drivers license. Why would this be different?

In the film there was one examiner who started blowing his nose while listening to someone trying to call a run, there was a real examiner named Mr Finlay back in the 70’s,just like him, I was calling a run and he got up from behind his desk and put his hat and coat on as if he was going to leave the room, someone said he took his dentures out, all done to put you off your stride, everyone dreaded an appearance with him.

Sorry to hear about the break-in and theft. Not sure about your definition of "macaroni". I think it's actually a convoluted form of Cockney rhyming slang for "pony", which can refer to £25, but in this instance refers to "pony and trap" - or crap; ie: all the stuff they've got to learn for the Knowledge. Oh, and it's Mick Ford, not Mike.

As Airline staff, I wear my ID from hallside table to hallside table. Losing it means I cannot physically get in to work. I'm so sorry for the stress and time these nasty people created. Also, we have bullet proof glass on Hotel to Airport Crew Transport vehicles in certain countries. Adds considerable weight and is arguably a safety risk: you can't smash it from the inside, but the benefits outweigh the risks.

Apparently back in the day if you lost your badge you were invited to take a lucky dip in a bag of surrendered (presumably on retirement) badges rather be compelled to have the most recent number. I have seen a single digit badge number, on Charing Cross. Think it was a 6 or a 9.

@@Marktaxi Hi, I'm sorry, I may be misremembering or overstating. My father was a tour operator and tour guide with Wessex Tourist Services in Salisbury where we moved to in 1971. He was certainly very involved, along with colleagues in Wessex Tourist Services and a fellow guide called Don Cross in maybe bringing the Blue Badge system to Salisbury. He certainly got a very early Salisbury Blue Badge.
I hope you find somewhere you can get a replica of your original badge.

    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Central_Motorway_Junction
There IS a "Spaghetti Junction" in Auckland. Commonly known as such due to the various motorway paths and even various speed limits. My bus to work is directly above the junction, so it avoids the motorways altogether.
